Bayside Cricket Club has won its first premiership in sensational circumstances after a tie in the CSB Division 3 grand final, while Aspendale added more silverware to its impressive collection.

Bayside Cricket Club has won its first premiership in sensational circumstances after a tie with Carnegie in the CSB Division 3 grand final.

Seven years after forming out of a merger between Highett and Moorabbin Park cricket clubs, the Stingrays were sipping premiership champagne.

Bayside made 118 and then restricted Carnegie to 9-118, with the Stingrays taking the flag courtesy of their top spot finish.

Dylan Woolley (42) top scored for Bayside on Saturday before Tom Lamb (3-30 off 34 overs) and Richard Hunter (4-45 off 33 overs) bowled outstanding, disciplined spells on Sunday. The pair sent down an incredible 37 maidens between them.

Bayside CC began its journey in September, 2017, with a goal to create a strong, proud, and inclusive cricket club in the community and broader bayside area. After starting with three losses, the Stingrays won their first game in November, 2017, and have come a long way since.

Hunter, a hero in the flag triumph, played in Bayside’s inaugural season and in its first win.
